About Us
The Martinsville-Henry County EDC's Tourism and Film Division was created in 2005 under the umbrella of the Martinsville-Henry Economic Development Corporation whose mission is to create new job opportunities and expand the tax base for the area; support and develop local industry; and market Martinsville-Henry County globally as an exceptional place to live, work and play.
The Tourism & Film Division continues to foster economic growth through the promotion of our area as a tourist destination, a host for various sporting events and as a cost efficient location for filmmaking.
After several years of training and preparation, we became a certified film office in 2010, one of only three in Virginia. In order to provide a useful resource for filmmakers and scouts to use in identifying potential filming locations, we maintain an online database through Reel-Scout, a tool for promoting and finding film locations.
Economic Impact of Filmmaking in Virginia
A recent study by the Virginia Commonwealth University Center for Public Policy found that more than 8,000 people in Virginia are involved in the filmmaking industry, which brought more than $500 million in economic impact to Virginia in 2004.
