Philpott Lake, as seen on FLW Outdoors, is a 3,000 acre reservoir located in the northwest corner of Henry County and is home to Philpott Marina. Walleye, smallmouth bass, carp and largemouth bass are just some of the species found here.
Philpott Lake offers pleasure boaters and paddlers a variety of places to explore including hidden waterfalls, scenic rock outcrops and three islands. Deer Island, the largest of the three, offers nightly camp site rentals that are only accessible via boat.
Bowen's Creek Park and Goose Point Park are some of the other recreational areas offered on Philpott.

Located just a short drive northeast of Bassett, Fairy Stone State Park features a 168-acre lake that adjoins Philpott Lake.
Beaver Creek Reservoir, located near Patrick Henry Community College, offers 175 acres of water for boating and on-site canoe rentals. Pike is a popular species to fish for in this lake.
For an enjoyable scenic drive, visit Lake Lanier located along Corn Tassel Trail in Martinsville. While privately owned and not open to the public for fishing or boating, this lake makes a beautiful backdrop for an afternoon of sightseeing.
Fishing Tackle Loaner Program
This free program lends out fishing equipment (one Zebco rod and one filled Plano tackle box) to people, especially children, who do not have their own equipment or are reluctant to buy it before first experiencing the thrill of fishing. Items may be checked out for a 24-hour period. In state residents 16 and older and out of state residents 12 and older must possess a valid Virginia fishing license to participate.
Equipment may be picked up at the following locations: Philpott Lake Visitor Assistance Center, Bowens Creek Park, Goose Point Park, Salthouse Branch Park, Horseshoe Point Park, Fairy Stone State Park and the Blue Ridge Regional Library branches in Martinsville and Bassett.
