42 Youth Lacrosse Teams To Visit the Smith River Sports Complex on Saturday

The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) is excited to announce the return of youth lacrosse on Saturday, May 5, as 42 teams will visit Martinsville to participate in a new event to the SRSC schedule, the Piedmont Community Lacrosse Association (PCLA) LaxFest.

"We couldn't be more excited that the PCLA decided to move its end-of-season tournament to our facility," said Houston Stutz, SRSC director of operations and marketing. "It will be a big day for SRSC as well as Martinsville-Henry County with over 1,000 athletes alone visiting our community for the day."

All 42 teams will be guaranteed three games in the round-robin style tournament that begins at 8 a.m. with lacrosse action on all six fields at the SRSC. Players will range from 7 years old to 14 years old with both boys and girls participating. The top two teams from each of the seven age brackets will then face-off in the championship match. The championship matches will begin at 3 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. The full day of lacrosse will conclude around 8:30 p.m.

"SRSC has all the amenities to host a large number of teams and is uniquely located about an hour from all of our member clubs," said John Gilman, PCLA Tournament Director. "It's the perfect place to have a celebration of the game and wrap up a great season. We have nothing like this Greensboro."

The PCLA was formed in 2015 when nine different community-based lacrosse programs in the Piedmont Triad came together. The nine clubs formed 48 teams with 800 boys and 150 girls participating. The association is now in its third year and has continuously grown to over 1100 players.
