Action Packed Weekend at the Sports Complex

The Smith River Sports Complex(SRSC) swings into action again this weekend with the 3rd Annual Men’s College Showcase,  the Christian Athletics Outreach (CAO) Girls Soccer Jam and the Virginia Storm Semi Pro Football team competes against the Greensboro Cowboys.

This will be the third year for the Men’s College Showcase with soccer teams coming from:  Appalachian State, High Point University, James Madison University, Longwood University, University of North Carolina-Greensboro, Averett University, Radford University and Richmond University.

The showcase will hold two sessions with the first session game beginning at 10:30 a.m. and the last game at 12:10 p.m.  Play will resume at 2:45 p.m. for the second session and the final game will start at 4:30 p.m. Admission is free for everyone.

"We are privileged and excited to be hosting some of the best college soccer talent in Virginia & North Carolina this spring,” said Billy Russo, Director of Operations for the Smith River Sports Complex. "This is the most competitive field of teams we have had and with it FREE to the public this is an excellent opportunity for fans to see top-quality soccer in their backyard."

The CAO Girls Soccer Jam will have varsity and middle school teams from all over the region competing at the Smith River Sports Complex.  Participating teams include: Carlisle School, Roanoke Valley Christian School, Faith Christian School, Grace Christian School, Dayspring Christian Academy, Southwest Virginia Home School, Faith Christian Academy, New Covenant School, Roanoke Catholic School and Richmond Home School.

Play will begin at 9 a.m. and last throughout the day until the varsity championship game at 6 p.m. Admission will be $3.00 for adults, $1.00 for students, $7.00 for families, and $2.00 for seniors (60+) and free for children 6 and under.  

The Virginia Storm Semi Professional Football team will be taking the field again this Saturday at 7 p.m. against the Greensboro Cowboys.  Admission is $6.00 for adults but you can receive $1.00 off if you bring a canned or non-perishable food item that will be donated to the Community Storehouse.  

“We ask that you come out this season to see semi-pro football here in Martinsville as the excitement of former local high school talents thrives on the field,”   stated Billy Russo, Director of Operations at the Smith River Sports Complex.  “These games are exciting, entertaining, and family friendly, so come out and support your football team this season.”
