Area Residents Participate in FAM Tour

On Monday the VisitMartinsville team brought 15 members of the Comfort Inn staff and one staff member from the Harvest Foundation on a familiarization (FAM) tour of Martinsville-Henry County.

Throughout the tour, 10 different attractions were visited, including the Bassett Historical CenterPhilpott Marina, the Martinsville-Henry County Visitor CenterMartinsville-Henry County Heritage Center & Museum, TheatreWorks, Studio 107, the Virginia Museum of Natural HistoryPiedmont Arts, the Bike Barn, and the Smith River Sports Complex

At each location, staff members were on hand to give an overview of the purpose of their particular attraction.

"Even though I'm from this area, I'd never been to a whole lot of these places until today," Jo Shively, who works in housekeeping at the Comfort Inn, said.

According to Michael Rankin, who works at the front desk of the Comfort Inn, "the part that was enjoyable was finding out the history of the area, along with the sites that you can see that are inexpensive and free. [We saw] a lot of interesting aspects that we didn't know about the community before."

"We were very excited to show these sites to the staff of the Comfort Inn". Said Chloe Mayhew, Group Sales Coordinator for the Martinsville-Henry County EDC. "When visitors come to town, our lodging partners are often the first to direct them through town. This was a great opportunity to show them some of our highlights and give them a feel for what our visitors experience while in Martinsville-Henry County,"
