Bug Festival is Saturday, June 15!

Join us for the triumphant return of Bug Festival on Saturday, June 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.! Enjoy a day full of live insects, awesome entomology collections, and all of the fun and activities you'd expect at a VMNH festival!

What to See and Do

-Live insects and arachnids from the Bayer Insectarium, Virginia Tech, and Exotics & Aquatics!
-Madagascar hissing cockroach races!
-Flea circus! (Note times below)
-Tub-O-Bugs!
-Eat a scorpion...and win a pin to prove it to your friends!
-Real fossil arthropods dating back to the Triassic period (~226 million years ago)!
-Preserved specimens from the museum's invertebrate collections - the largest collection in Virginia!
-Stump the Experts: Bring an unusual bug to the festival and have the experts try to identify it and teach you about it! (1 to 2 p.m. only)
-Tours of the museum's dermestid beetle colony! (This activity has an additional $3 charge per person, which can be paid at the tour.)
-Catching Bugs: Learn how expert entomologists collect and prepare insects for museum collections during live demonstrations!
-Bug-themed activities and crafts!
-Balloon animals!
-Rock climbing wall for kids!
*** Please note that the flea circus is approximately 30 minutes per show and 5 shows will take place throughout the festival.

-$5 for ages 3-18
-Free for children under 3
-Free for museum members
-Free for members of other ASTC Passport participating museums and science centers.
