Christmas Cards Feature of New Exhibit at Little Post Office

Christmas in April, an exhibit of Christmas cards painted by local artist Wanda Prillaman will open at Piedmont Arts’ Historic Little Post Office on March 31, 2017. A free reception with light refreshments will be held from 4 – 6 pm.

Wanda created an original Christmas card for her family and friends almost every year for more than 40 years. These cards are snapshots of the places and people in Martinsville-Henry County and American culture through the last four decades. The exhibit features reproductions of all the cards Wanda created and several hand-painted originals by the renowned watercolorist.

“To have such a large exhibit of Wanda’s cards on display is such a privilege,” said Will Gravely, Piedmont Arts board member and honorary “Postmaster” of the Historic Little Post Office. “Her Christmas cards were cherished, collected, framed, and prominently displayed by so many who were fortunate to receive them.”

Christmas in April is held in conjunction with the Wanda Prillaman Watercolor Invitational, which is on display at Piedmont Arts through April 29, 2017. The exhibit features 29 works by Wanda and works by 21 regional watercolor artists who experienced Wanda’s influence in their lives.

“Wanda will always be remembered as one of Martinsville-Henry County’s most celebrated artists,” said Director of Exhibitions Heidi Pinkston. “We are truly honored to share her work with the community.”

Piedmont Arts’ Historic Little Post Office, located at 207 Starling Ave., is open Tuesday – Friday from 11:30 am – 4:30 pm. Piedmont Arts, located at 215 Starling Ave., is open Tuesday – Friday from 10 am – 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am – 3 pm. Both exhibits are admission free.
