Classic Cars Cruised Through Area

On Thursday, the Mid-Atlantic Region Veteran Motor Car Club of America (VMCCA) Tour came through Martinsville-Henry County. The group, which consisted of 43 out-of-town visitors from Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania, visited the Martinsville Speedway, ate lunch at Jerry's Pizza, Pasta & Grill, and visited two private car collections in the area.

The highlight of the day for many tour members was at the Martinsville Speedway where the tour participants drove their cars around the track and posed for photos on the finish line. Mike Smith, director of public relations for Martinsville Speedway gave a tour of the track and told about its rich history. Mark Bodenheimer of Colfax, NC, enjoyed visiting the track and learning about its history.

Bill Bushey of Maryland, who brought his grandson along said that he enjoyed "being able to take my old truck out on the speedway and just taking some pictures." He added that that he enjoys traveling to various NASCAR tracks to drive his truck which features a mural of other vehicles owned by his friends.

"We were very excited to host the VMCCA tour this year. It was a great event that brought classic car collectors from five states to the area. The Martinsville Speedway, Jerry's Pizza, and the private car collectors were great at accommodating the group, and we hope to see them back next year," Chloe Mayhew, Martinsville-Henry County EDC's group sales coordinator, said.
