Swingtime! Starring The Jive Aces with The Tinseltown Jitterbugs
Sunday March 8, 2015
The Jive Aces, the UK’s No. 1 jive and swing band, will bring a high-energy blend of swing, jive, and R&B to Martinsville when they perform with The Tinseltown Jitterbugs in the variety show, Swingtime!, on Saturday, March 21 at 7:30 pm at Martinsville High School Auditorium.
"We are looking forward to performing for Piedmont Arts On Stage," said The Jive Aces' lead singer Ian Clarkson. This will be our first time in Martinsville and the whole team, including our glamorous female guest singer Makinna Ridgway and The Tinseltown Jitterbug dancers, will give the people of Martinsville a memorable, fun show, full of life and energy. They will go back home feeling entertained and happy."
The Jive Aces are known for their high-energy music, spectacular live show, and for being the first live band to reach the final rounds of Britain’s Got Talent—where they wowed the judges with their show-stopping version of “I Wanna Be Like You,” and famously cheered up a grumpy Simon Cowell.
The band’s live set includes songs from their latest album, King of the Swingers, featuring classics like, "Bare Necessities," "Mack The Knife," "Sing, Sing, Sing," and their hit version of "Bring Me Sunshine," the video for which has 2.5 million views on Youtube and has won seven film festival awards.
The Jive Aces have worked with Van Morrison and Status Quo as well as performing for Queen Elizabeth. The band headlined and sold-out the first ever swing dance at the Royal Albert Hall and have brought down the house at thousands of festivals, theaters, dance halls and major events in over 30 countries, including Buckingham Palace, and Trafalgar Square during the Olympics.
Multi-talented singer Makinna Ridgway will join The Jive Aces as a special guest vocalist. Ridgway is an LA based singer/actress with screen credits including, Castle and the award-winning film, Taylor's Way, as well as several of the Jive Aces' videos. She is also a founding member of Hollywood's Satin Dollz pin-up dancers.
But, the fun doesn’t stop with high-energy music. The Tinseltown Jitterbugs, a bevy of beautiful betties and cool cats, will bring fast-paced, high-flying swing dancing to the stage in a can’t miss combo. This exciting group is made up of some of the finest swing dancers from around the U.S. Their spectacular routines include classic dances of the era such as Lindy Hop and the Charleston.
