Playing in this tournament will be U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15, U-19, and adult teams with games beginning at 9 a.m., and running through the last game beginning at 10 p.m. Forty teams have signed on to play in the tournament, including Martinsville's own Southside River Sharks, who will be playing in their second ever home tournament. In addition to the River Sharks, the teams come from Roanoke, Lynchburg, Forest, Richmond, Salem, Greensboro, N.C., Winston Salem, N.C., and Charlotte, N.C.
"We are really excited to have 40 teams coming into the 2015 Spring Frenzy from Southern Virginia and the Piedmont of North Carolina," said John Gilman, tournament director. "We are even more thrilled to see Martinsville's own River Sharks playing in the field, also. Having a local program now helps spread the game and bridge a gap between the North Carolina and Virginia youth groups. We encourage more area athletes to come out and see the sport Saturday and watch the local players compete."
"We are pleased to be hosting yet another larger lacrosse event this weekend in the Hammerhead Frenzy. The Tournament Director John Gilman has been a very vital part in our efforts in starting our club, and we are pleased that we can continue this tournament relationship, as well," said Billy Russo, SRSC Director of Operations.
