Starting Saturday, February 13, Martinsville and Henry County residents can surprise their valentines (or anyone) with a singing telegram.

For $25 one of the Patriot Players at Patrick Henry Community College will deliver a song, rose and card to a person and location of the requestor’s choosing. Patriot Players will try to accommodate special song requests and different genres. Last year, song requests ranged from 'All of Me' by John Legend to 'Kiss the Girl' from 'The Little Mermaid.'

“Last year’s singing telegrams met with great success,” says Patriot Players Program Director Devin Pendleton. “It’s just such a unique gift idea that’s also really versatile.  It can be romantic or silly.” Telegrams will be delivered on Saturday, February 13 from 9 am to 4:30 pm and on Sunday, February 14 from 10 am to 1 pm.

“I was blown away by the telegram I received,” says Frank Tatum, who was one of more than thirty people to receive a singing telegram last year. “It was sweet, exciting, unexpected and made me feel so loved. I can hardly put it into words, and I’d recommend it as a great gift idea for anyone!”

The telegrams are not only a unique gift, they are also a way to support the education of the arts and local talent. All proceeds will benefit the Patriot Players. Cash or checks are accepted and some restrictions will apply.

To schedule a singing valentine, email dpendleton@patrickhenry.edu or call (276) 638-8777 ext. 0460. Limited spots are available.
