The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) and Old North State Lacrosse Foundation (ONS) are proud to announce that the Cardinal Cup Lacrosse Classic will once again be visiting Martinsville for the ninth time this Saturday, October 5. The Cardinal Cup will feature 21 teams with players from 12 to 18 years old participating.

Games are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday on all five main complex fields. During pool play, games are slated to begin each hour with the final games beginning at 4 p.m. The JV high school division will face off for the title match at 5:20 p.m., while the varsity high school age groups will determine their champions at 5:30 p.m. Throughout the course of the day, over 1200 guests and players are expected to visit SRSC.

"We are very excited to continue our relationship with the ONS Lacrosse Foundation," said Billy Russo, director of operations at the Smith River Sports Complex. "We have hosted several events with them and we look forward to welcoming the teams into our community once again this weekend."

The partnership between SRSC and ONS began in 2012 and is now in its fifth year with the complex hosting two events for ONS each year. The Fall Classic being held this Saturday will bring visitors to the Martinsville-Henry County area from Virginia and North Carolina.

"We really enjoy hosting tournaments at the Smith River Sports Complex since it is a great location for the teams coming from North Carolina and Virginia," said Kathy Goldsmith, event organizer. "The fields are in great shape and the layout of the complex is perfect for the format of our tournament. There are many great amenities as well as ample parking for the families attending the games. We are looking forward to another great event this Saturday!"

The ONS Lacrosse Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization based out of Greensboro, North Carolina as described by its website. The foundation is organized to "provide support for the development of, and to enhance playing, coaching and officiating opportunities in the sport of lacrosse," while its mission is to "provide a lacrosse experience in which the player will have an opportunity to grow his/her skills and knowledge of the great game of lacrosse in a fun-filled environment."
