The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) is excited to announce that tickets are now on sale for the third annual Wine by the River Wine Festival, to benefit the Matthew Wayne Wade Foundation, on September 30, 2017. The event will run from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and feature wine tasting, beer, live music, as well as a chance to purchase goods from local food trucks and artisan vendors.

"We're really looking forward to our third annual wine festival," Lloyd Barber, executive director of SRSC, said. "The excitement in the community has made it a great event to organize and we can't wait for September 30th to get here as we expect our best festival yet!"

There will be an admission fee of $20 for persons 21 and older that would like to participate in the tastings and just $5 for designated drivers and persons under 21 years old. Tickets are now available for purchase at the Complex during regular business hours from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m., by calling 276-638-5200 ext. 6, or by visiting the Wine by the River page on www.SmithRiverSportsComplex.com. Any 21 and older tickets purchased prior to the event are only $15. Tickets will also be available the day of the event for full price.

Currently five different wineries have registered to attend and participate in this festival including: Hamlet Vineyards, Preston Ridge, Ramulose Ridge Vineyards, Stanburn Winery and West Wind Farm. The festival will take place by the scenic Smith River, which can be accessed by taking the Smith River Sports Complex River Access Road. Along with the variety of wine available, there will also be multiple options of beer provided by Mountain Valley Brewery and Lawrence Distributing.

Live music will be performed by the band Stone Canyon, which plays music spanning from the 1960's right up to today's hits. The band features Pop, Rock, R & B, Country Rock and Country music. So, there will be something for everyone to enjoy while tasting their favorite wines from across the region.

At the first and second festivals in 2015 and 2016, there were 20 local food and artisan vendors for the more than 500 guests to explore while enjoying the afternoon by the river. This year, organizers plan to increase attendance as well as the number of participating vendors as the annual event continues to grow to help a great cause.

Part of the proceeds from the festival will go to the Matthew Wayne Wade foundation, a local nonprofit organization that focuses on promoting heart health. The purpose of the foundation, as stated by representatives of the Matthew Wayne Wade Foundation, is "to provide education and raise social consciousness about the importance of building and maintaining a healthy lifestyle."
