Thur., Oct. 4 – Arts at The Rives is teaming up with Books and Crannies, Natalie Hodge, and Chad Martin to explore the worlds of hip-hop and poetry.
When struggling rapper Coco (Azealia Banks) enrolls in a poetry class, she thinks her rhymes will impress her teacher, Professor Dixon (Jill Scott). Instead, Dixon challenges Coco to seek real meaning in her lyrics, setting her on a journey of discovery that takes her through rap clubs and poetry slams, leading her to find her true voice – and true love – in this uplifting movie costarring Lucien Laviscount.
Join us at before the movie for a spoken word/poetry event in the lower theatre co-hosted by Natalie Hodge and Chad Martin as we explore the marriage between hip-hop and poetry. Poetry event begins at 7pm followed by the movie, “Love Beats Rhymes” at 7:30pm. Event included in the purchase of movie ticket. Concessions, beer, and wine will be available for purchase.
