The Smith River Sports Complex will be organizing and managing the Smith River T-Ball League. Bill Parks, Warren Fisher, Charles Byrd, and Greg Hylton founded the T-Ball program in 2008 with the help of the Virginia Baseball Association, a group of individuals dedicated to improving local youth baseball and softball programs including the facilities, instruction of the game, and quality of play. Earlier this year they approached the Sports Complex with the opportunity to run the league.

"By playing at the Sports Complex, there is a possibility of playing more than two games at a time. In the past, we were only able to play two games at once (baseball and softball fields). The number of parents, grand-parents, sisters, brothers, etc., that attend games to support the players can now be accommodated as well," said Bill Parks, former coordinator of the Smith River T-Ball league and current head baseball coach for Bassett High School.

"We are excited about adding the Smith River T-Ball League to our already diverse group of leagues and events at SRSC. This league has a lot of potential and we hope to enhance the experience for each participant," said Billy Russo, Director of Operations for the Smith River Sports Complex.

Children must be 4, 5, or 6 years old on April 30th, 2012 to be eligible to participate. Practices begin in April and will be scheduled by team coaches who are parents and community volunteers. If you would like to be a coach/volunteer please indicate that on the registration form. There will be a coaches meeting on April 2nd at 7 p.m. in the SunTrust Pavilion meeting room at the complex.

"Most importantly, the coaches helped to make the program a success with the amount of time they put into helping the kids with practices and games. We met some really good people that care about kids in the 4 years we ran the program, and we cannot thank all of them enough for the things they did for the children," stated Parks.

All games will be played at the Smith River Sports Complex on Saturdays during May and June. The registration fee is $25 and due by Friday, March 30th. Registration forms can be obtained from the Sports Complex's website or you can register on March 10, 17, or 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Complex's Legacy Courtyard area.
