The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) is excited to bring Ultimate Frisbee back to Martinsville this coming weekend June 22-23rd. The SAVAGE Summer Series is bringing the Old Dominion Qualifier to SRSC. USA Ultimate, the governing body of Ultimate Frisbee, sanctions this event.
The Old Dominion Qualifier is one of three qualifying tournaments throughout the summer. Teams playing this weekend will be competing for a spot in the Charleston Cup in Charleston, SC in August.
Director of Operations, Billy Russo, said, "We are thrilled to start a new relationship with another Ultimate Frisbee tournament organizer. We look forward to growing this event series with SAVAGE Ultimate and having more Ultimate Frisbee opportunities at SRSC."
Ultimate Frisbee is an extremely fast-paced game featuring top-notch athletes. The sport is noted for its speed and agility. The Old Dominion Qualifier will feature a total of 16 teams, 10 from the Open Division and 6 in the Mixed Division. Teams are traveling from all over Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, New York, Washington, Oregon, Tennessee and throughout the rest of the country. Games will be played on Saturday the 22nd from 9 AM to 5 PM and again on Sunday the 23rd from 9 AM to 3 PM.
The owner of SAVAGE and organizer for this tournament series, Todd Curran, said he picked SRSC because of its location, "It allows for teams across the southeast and mid-Atlantic to travel there." Curran added, "I know that the tournament will run smoothly with the staff's help."
