Trick-or-Treating in Uptown
Tuesday October 22, 2013
Over twenty-five businesses in the Uptown district will be giving out treats to trick-or-treaters on Halloween.
Trick-or-treating hours are from 4pm-7pm on Thursday, October 31st. Treats will be given to children, ages 12 and under, who are in costume.
Parents are encouraged to park in the Broad St parking lot to start the loop down Church and back up Main. Participating businesses are as follows: Martin Plaza, Broad Street Christian Church, Pieces, Studio 107, Mtn Jax, Ford Insurance Agency (til 5:00pm), West Piedmont Business Development Center, What's Your Sign?, Rucker's Antique Emporium, Mollie's Originals, Junkbabies, Hugo's Restaurant, Uptown Sweets, Boys & Girls' Club (til 6:00pm), Martinsville-Henry County Visitor Center / The Artisan Center, Tasty Crème Donuts, Classy Consignments & Gifts, Martinsville-Henry County Heritage Center & Museum, Just Breathe Yoga & Bodywork, It's Your Time Salon, 37 East, Sherwin-Williams, Larry & Alley Furniture, S & K Office Products, Daily Grind, and the Blue Ridge Public Library (til 5:30pm).
Uptown businesses developed this idea as a safe and friendly alternative to neighborhood trick-or-treating, as many households choose not to participate in this children's ritual anymore. Uptown merchants would like to pick up where others have left off, by inviting the local children into their "neighborhood" of businesses.
Many Uptown restaurants will be extending their hours to accommodate families during this fun-filled night. Various shops and restaurants are offering Halloween specials that night as well.
