Auditions are coming next week for the upcoming Patriot Players show "Shrek: The Musical."
Students and community members are invited to participate in auditions, which will be held at Patrick Henry Community College in Walker Fine Arts Theatre on March 17 and 19 from 6-9 p.m.
Actors 12 years old and up can audition and should bring 16 bars of a song ( roughly one verse and one course) and a prepared monologue or children's story excerpt that's 30 to 60 seconds long.
Patriot Players Artistic Director Devin Pendleton said "Shrek" will be a show the entire community can enjoy.
"This show is going to be great - everybody loves ‘Shrek,'" he said. "This is going to be a big show. We'll have puppets, moving lights, prosthetics and costuming. We're going to need everyone's support from the community and from PHCC."
Patriot Players Director Jane Leizer added, "This is a really big show that is guaranteed to bring out the inner child in everyone and allow them to visit a magical place. We welcome everyone to audition and help us bring ‘Shrek' to life onstage."
PHCC students also can take "Shrek" as a three-credit transferrable class (CST-136), which can be substituted for speech or used as a humanities elective. Students should contact their advisor or email firstname.lastname@example.org for additional information.
"Our goal is to engage as many students and potential students as possible in Martinsville and Henry County," Pendleton said.
Performances will be May 30- 31 at 7 p.m., June 1 at 2 p.m. and June 5-7 at 7 p.m. To find out more about the show, visit www.patrickhenry.edu/patriotplayers or call (276) 638-8777 ext. 0460.
