The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) will host the Pomerstone Classic Women's Lacrosse Tournament this weekend, April 4th-6th. A single match between Oakland University and James Madison University will play on Friday, April 4th at 8 p.m. On Saturday the tournament will resume at 9 a.m. with the last games starting at 9 p.m. On Sunday the first games will start at 8 a.m. and the final games will play at 12 p.m. The third annual Pomerstone Classic is put on by the Mid-Atlantic Women's Lacrosse League (MAWLL).

"As always, everyone looks forward to the highly nationally ranked match-ups. As of April 1st, we have 6 of the Top 12 Women's Collegiate Lacrosse Associates Division II teams in action and all playing each other and also 2 Top 20 Division I teams attending," said Pomerstone Tournament Director David Pomeroy when asked what he is looking forward to. "This tournament has become "THE" Division II tournament, year after year so many DII teams go to Nationals following our tournament and we look forward to seeing it happen again!"

Pomeroy hosted the second annual Pomerstone Classic back in April of 2013 at the Smith River Sports Complex.

"The beautiful complex was a huge reason to come back to the Smith River Sports Complex. The wonderful staff is extremely easy to work with," stated Pomeroy when asked why they decided to return to SRSC. "This place is a great fit for our size and we expect to be here for years to come!"

Schools that will be participating are Appalachian State, Army, Boston College, Duke University, East Carolina University, Elon University, James Madison University, Loyola, Maryland, North Carolina University, Oakland University, Salisbury, Southern Methodist, Villanova, University of Virginia and Virginia Tech.

"This event is huge for our facility and area and brings in teams from all over the country and showcases our complex and area. We are thrilled to play host to this event again," said Director of Operations for the SRSC Billy Russo.

Pomeroy says that local spectators will get to see the fastest growing collegiate sport for free and with plenty of options in games. This tournament is a great way for local fans and lacrosse enthusiasts to see that their daughters have an option, at so many schools, to play at the club level yet still be extremely competitive and be able to balance academics and athletics much easier.
