In celebration of Virginia Farmers' Market Week, declared by Governor Terry McAuliffe, hundreds of farmers markets from around the state will be showcased during the peak of growing season. The Martinsville-Henry County Tourism Division invites visitors and residents to shop at the area farmers' markets where they can buy fresh, locally grown produce, speak to the farmers who grow the products, purchase crafts, and enjoy live music.
Area markets include:
• Bassett Community Market - open on Thursdays from 11 am - 1 pm at the historic Bassett Train Depot • Martinsville Uptown Farmers' Market - open Monday evenings from 4 - 7 pm and Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 7 am - 12 pm at the corners of Moss and Church Street. They are celebrating by serving free cake from Uptown Sweets and homemade watermelon lemonade on Saturday, August 9th. • Fairy Stone Farmers' Market - open on Monday evenings from 5 - 7 pm at Fairy Stone State Park • The Ridgeway Farm Market - open Monday - Friday from 10 am - 6 pm, Saturday from 9 am - 6 pm, and Sunday from 11 am - 5pm on US 220 S in Ridgeway
On Sunday, August 10th, the Martinsville-Henry County Visitor Center will feature Tuggle Farms and Windy Ridge Farms during their weekly "Sample Sunday" event. Drop by to visit Sunday afternoon from 1-5 p.m. at the MHC Visitor Center off Moss Street in Martinsville to enjoy free samples of a variety of products including: Tuggle Farms Garden Salsa, jam tarts made with Tuggle Farms Strawberry Jam, gazpacho, sundried tomato dip, and cucumber iced tea. While there, both visitors and residents can browse the MHC Visitor Center to discover many things to do and see in the state of Virginia.
