The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) will host another lacrosse tournament organized by Old North State Lacrosse from Greensboro, NC this weekend, November 1st & 2nd. The tournament is set to begin at 9 AM for Saturday and Sunday and admission is free for both days.
The Cardinal Cup Fall Classic will feature 34 teams of U9 – U18 age divisions coming from North Carolina and Virginia. This is the largest fall lacrosse event ONS & SRSC have ever hosted. Several people will be staying in local hotels, eating in local restaurants and exploring the area.
The Cardinal Cup is sponsored by the Old North State (ONS) Foundation- a North Carolina non-profit organization out of Greensboro, NC. The ONS Foundation provides support for the development and enhancement of playing, coaching, and officiating opportunities in the sport of lacrosse.
"We have had very positive feedback from our past tournaments and quite a few teams have attended more than one of our events. We already have teams reserving their spot for the summer Cardinal Cup tournament also at SRSC," said tournament director Kathy Goldsmith. "Coaches and parents love the location and the amenities of the Smith River Sports Complex. The fields are easily accessible and the grounds are perfect for socializing between games."
The game results will be on display at the administrative table in the Carter Bank & Trust Pavilion where the coaches and spectators will be able to see the teams’ standings.
“This event is another opportunity for our local folks who are interested in lacrosse to come out and see a great tournament atmosphere and to get excited about the future possibilities of local lacrosse here.” said Billy Russo, Director of Operations for SRSC. “34 teams (approx. 1,200 people) will be here spending money in our community which will be the first of four weekend’s in November that will be occurring”, said Russo.
