Easterns Qualifier At Smith River Sports Complex

This weekend the Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) will host the Easterns Qualifier Ultimate Frisbee Tournament at 9:00 a.m. February 22nd and 23rd. Twenty-four college club teams will travel from all over the East Coast and Midwest to the SRSC and Martinsville-Henry County to fight for the one remaining open slot in the Easterns Tournament.

This is the second year the Easterns Qualifier Tournament is being held at SRSC and 16 of the 24 teams who attended last year are returning.

"Spectators will be able to look forward to some high level college ultimate featuring teams from all over the country," stated Greg Vassar, who founded Easterns Qualifier in 2011. "I am most excited about the great facility and what looks to be perfect weather for this weekend. Many teams are travelling a long way from colder climates and feel the same way."

Teams in attendance for the Eastern's Qualifier are North Carolina-Wilmington, Auburn, Delaware, Maryland, Georgetown, William & Mary, Virginia Tech, James Madison, Michigan State, Ohio State, Minnesota-Duluth, Massachusetts, Northeastern, Virginia, Connecticut, North Carolina State, Ohio, Appalachian State, Williams, Pennsylvania, Penn State, Rutgers, Indiana, and Washington University (St. Louis).

"This is an exciting event for us because it brings in athletes from several states from all over the East Coast and Midwest. All of these athletes will flood the area on Friday night eating in area restaurants and staying in local hotels," said Billy Russo, Director of Operations for SRSC. "What a great way to open our 2014 season."

This event is free to the public and concessions will be open. For more information about the Smith River Sports Complex and upcoming events please visit www.SmithRiverSportsComplex.com or contact Amanda Gray at (276) 638-5200 for any questions or concerns.
