Introductory Lacrosse Clinics will be held at the Smith River Sports Complex

The newly formed Southside Lacrosse Club (SLC) is hosting introductory lacrosse clinics at the Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) on August 4th and 7th. The clinics are free and for all children ages 7 - 18 who are interested in learning, playing or refining their skills in lacrosse.

The clinics will run from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on both days. Registration for the clinics will be on July 12th and July 19th from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Smith River Sports Complex located at 1000 Irisburg Rd., Axton, VA 24054.

Triad Youth Lacrosse Association will lead the introductory clinics which will demonstrate the basic fundamentals of lacrosse in a fun and engaging environment. Catching, throwing, scooping, cradling and shooting in a soft-ball environment will be covered in each clinic. Each skill will be set up in a station environment and will gradually build to some competitive drills on the last evening.

"We look forward to working with SLC to get Southside Lacrosse established in Martinsville," said John M. Gilman, the Director of Boys Lacrosse for the Triad Youth Lacrosse Association.

The Southside Lacrosse Club is a non-profit organization and is a member of U.S. Lacrosse. The club will operate under the direction of an advisory board and the Smith River Sports Complex in partnership with the Henry Count Parks and Recreation Department.

"Starting a local and regional lacrosse program has been a plan of ours for some time," said Billy Russo, Director of Operations for the Smith River Sports Complex. "We look forward to partnering with Henry County Parks and Recreation as well as other groups throughout the region to get the ball rolling on the Southside Lacrosse Club."
