Grant Enfinger’s Ready To Claim A Clock

A win at Martinsville Speedway in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Series Truck race on Saturday would mean a lot to Grant Enfinger.

Not only did he grow up, like so many other drivers, racing on short-tracks across the Southeast, but the race is also a home race for the man calling the shots for his ThorSport Racing team.

“Jeff Hensley, my crew chief, is from Martinsville, so it’s definitely number one on our list to get a win here,” Enfinger said. “We’ve got to have our stars line up and can’t have any mistakes. Fortunately, we’ve got the points lead coming in and we’ve got a really good opportunity.”

The 34-year-old knows in order for that to happen, he has to first be there at the end.

Last spring he finished fourth, and was running well in the fall before a late race issues relegated him to a 14th place finish.

Like so many drivers in the 70-plus years of racing at Martinsville, Enfinger had brake issues late in the race. However, he said he thinks he has learned from his mistakes.

“Last fall we had a lot of issues and brakes were one of them,” he said. “You’ve got to be aggressive with the brake pedal if you want good speed, but you also have to save your brakes, so you have something at the end.”

He also knows the old racer’s saying, “if you want to finish first, first you have to finish.”

“The other thing is keeping the fenders on the truck, so you have something to race with at the end,” Enfinger said. “If you lose track position in the middle of the race, you’ve got to drive your way to the front and a lot of times you have to use up your truck to do that.”

Enfinger will return to Martinsville this Saturday for the Martinsville 250 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series race, as part of the STP 500 weekend presented by whosyourdriver.org.

Tickets to the Truck Race are $35 and youth 17-and-under are admitted free.

In addition to the Martinsville 250, Saturday’s slate includes practice for Sunday’s STP 500 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race and Virginia Lottery Pole Qualifying.
