Halloween Happenings in MHC

Beginning this weekend, there are numerous “Halloween Happenings” scheduled in Martinsville-Henry County.  With Halloween and the NASCAR Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500 weekend being the same weekend, there are lots of events for residents and race fans to enjoy. From rocking concerts to zombie runs and spooky performances to trick-or-treats, you are sure to have "fun in record time" this Halloween season! 


The Addams Family  

If you’re looking for a spectacular show this October, plan to attend “The Addams Family.” This show features an original story of Wednesday Addams and a tale of forbidden love. The Addams Family will run from October 22 - 25 and October 30 - 31, 2015 at the Patrick Henry Community College. Tickets are on sale at the MHC Visitor Center or online by clicking HERE. Don’t miss the opportunity to see this entertaining, comical performance by the PHCC Patriot Players! If you’re trying to plan a fun way to spend your Halloween night, this show could be the perfect solution.


SPCA Zombie Run

If you enjoy outdoor events, register for the SPCA Zombie Run! This 5K race kicks off in Uptown Martinsville at 10 am on October 24, 2015. The race will begin at Fido’s Finds and Kittie’s Kollectibles and finish on the Dick & Willie trail. The run will be divided into seven categories of age: 10 & under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50 & up. During this 5K, the event will feature a one mile “Fun Run,” which allows the runners to make their way through zombie-infested territory. For the Fun Run, which starts at noon after the race, flag football belts will be provided to each runner. In an attempt to escape, runners must prevent the zombies from stealing their flags as they make their way through the course. Whoever manages to cross the finish line with the most flags will be crowned the survivor. If you choose to pre-register for the event the prices are: $30 - 5K, $20 - Fun Run, and $45 - combo. Prices for day-of registration are: $35 - 5K, $25 - Fun Run, and $55 - combo. 


Halloween Party at the Rives – Neil Young Tribute by Slick Jr. & the Reactors 

Come on out for a Halloween Party at the Rives! For this event, Slick Jr. & the Reactors will be performing a tribute set to Neil Young. In addition to the amazing music, the event will feature a costume contest. Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed, so make sure to wear your most creative Halloween costume! This event is taking place Friday, October 30, 2015 and has an admission fee of $10. Invite all of your friends for tons of ghoulish good fun.


Dia de los Muertos Family Day at Piedmont Arts

The "Day of the Dead" comes to life during the Dia de los Muertos Family Day at Piedmont Arts! This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the Hispanic traditions of the holiday in a family-friendly environment. In addition to learning about Dia de los Muertos, you can learn a traditional dance taught by costumed members of the Latin Ballet of Virginia. If dancing is not your thing, crafts and snacks will be provided as well. Make sure to attend Dia de los Muertos Family Day at Piedmont Arts on Saturday, October 31, 2015 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. Admission for this event is free and all ages are welcome. Make sure to come out and join in the fun!


 Uptown Martinsville Trick or Treating 

Bring your family out to the Uptown Martinsville Trick-or-Treating. The event is hosted by numerous Uptown Martinsville Merchants, so it’s a guaranteed safe destination to trick-or-treat with your children 12 and under. The streets of Uptown Martinsville will be closed so that your family can walk to every location. Make sure to come out Halloween night from 4 - 6 pm to truly enjoy this traditional trick-or-treating experience.
