Holiday Music at Reynolds Homestead

The annual Victorian Christmas celebration at the Reynolds Homestead this year will host the Mathesons’ performance group The Rainier Trio and guest soprano Leslie Mabe. Their “Holiday Pops” presentation features not only classical and modern holiday music for the season, but also the original music that has been part of the site’s historical interpretation for years. The group will bring to life the music of the 1800s as part of a special tribute to the “legendary” bicentennial of the Reynolds Homestead.

The concert is scheduled for Thursday, December 11 at 7:00 p.m. As is traditional, the historic home will open at 5:30 for guests to enjoy a walk through the authentically decorated National Historic Landmark. Refreshments will be served.

Tickets for this event are on sale at the Reynolds Homestead and reservations can be made by calling 276-694-7181. Adult admission
is $10 per person, and the cost for students is $5. Those under school age are free.

The Reynolds Homestead will also host the American Music Series presenting five exciting concerts beginning on December 14 with “A Holiday Mood” and then held monthly on each second Sunday through April 2015. These American Music Series afternoon concerts explore the roots of traditional music –old-time, bluegrass, blues, jazz and gospel music – with artists from the wealth of talent in Patrick County as well as musicians from this region of Virginia and North Carolina.

“A Holiday Mood” will feature two bands, The Anointed Gems (pictured, left), four young ladies who offer heartwarming and energetic music, and the Fringe Band, musical masters presenting bluegrass, old-time, jazz, blues, reggae, and rock for a unique sound that is considered to be on the “fringe” for their traditional instruments! Just for this Holiday Mood concert the bands will play some of their Christmas favorites.

Tickets for the entire series of 5 concerts are $25 for adults and $12 for students and can be purchased at the Reynolds Homestead and The Patrick County Chamber of Commerce. Tickets for individual events will be sold at the door for $12 for adults and $6 for students. The Gospel Concert on February 9th is, as always, free to the public!
