Lucky Adventures

When you think about St. Patrick's day, dinosaurs do not ordinarily come to mind, but that's not the case in Martinsville, Virginia. Take a drive down Spruce Street and you'll be sure to spot "Bud the Icecreamasaurus" donning his festive green hat in front of Binding Time Cafe'

Martinsville is home to the Virginia Museum of Natural History, so you'll spot Bud and several of his cousins parading around town. How many dinos can YOU find during your next visit?

Send us a photo of you or your family with one of the MHC Dinos on Parade and we'll enter you into a drawing for an MHC Prize Pack! Submit photos to JDoss@VisitMartinsville.com by March 31st.

Binding Time Cafe'

While at Binding Time, enjoy delicious Blue Bunny ice cream, fresh baked muffins or a soup and sandwich combo. Their special Latte of the week is the "Nutty Irishman," an Irish Cream and Hazelnut Latte.

You'll also enjoy browsing their book selection which features many local and regional authors. The special book of the month is Circles of Light by Dr. Mary Helen Hensley, a Martinsville native who now resides in Ireland.

Next, explore the Carolina Road to learn about the Scot-Irish migration that took place along that route in the 1700's. You can find maps and exhibits about the Carolina Road at the Martinsville-Henry County Heritage Center & Museum and Bassett Historical Center.

To see what it might have looked like to ford a river during that time visit the Great Road Canoe Access, which is near where the Carolina Road is presumed to cross the Smith River.

After a day of dino hunting and historic exploration, stop by Hugo's for St. Patrick's Day Dinner on Saturday March 17th. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., Les Moore will perform live rhythm and blues music while you enjoy a three course dinner of spinach dip or salad, Irish Corn Beef and cabbage served with new potatoes and a special Irish dessert. Festive drink specials will also be available.
