Martinsville Speedway Scales Back Toy Drive Due to Cold Weather

With weekend forecasts calling for evening temperatures well below freezing, Martinsville Speedway has scaled back the lineup for Saturday’s Santa’s Workshop 500 Christmas Toy Drive, benefiting Grace Network of Martinsville and Henry County.

The event will now take place from 5-7 p.m. and will just include Hot Laps around the track, for a donation of $10 or a new, unwrapped toy.

Deck The Stalls, the pit stall decorating contest, Sounds of the Season, with choirs singing Christmas songs and the visit with Santa have all been canceled.

“While the cold temperatures have forced us to adjust the toy drive, ensuring local kids have a special Christmas remains very important to us,” Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell said. “We have hundreds of people participate in the hot laps portion every year, and plan on having a similar turnout this year.”

For anyone interested in donating to the toy drive, but cannot make it on Saturday, toys and donations can be dropped off at the Martinsville Speedway Ticket Office Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
