Meet Darrin Doss

Meet a Martinsville Insider, Darrin Doss. Darrin is the President of the Smith River Chapter of Trout Unlimited, a Lynwood Artist and a member of the Henry County Pro-Am Photography Club. A catch-and-release fisherman, Darrin ties together his two loves of fishing and photography during the joyous pursuit of the elusive, wild, Smith River Brown Trout. His photography of the scenic Smith River can be viewed and purchased at The Artisan Center, a local art instruction school and shop featuring the work of more than 90 local and regional artists. Here are Darrin's tips for enjoying a fishing trip in Martinsville-Henry County...

Where do you go to enjoy sports and recreation?
"The Smith River! There are many trails provided by Henry County Parks and Recreation that are in close proximity to the river and make access relatively easy. The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries regularly stocks the river with rainbow trout and there is a healthy population of native brown trout for anglers to pursue year round."

What are your favorite Martinsville-Henry County festivals?

"Smith River Fest! With the spotlight on the Smith River, you will find members of our chapter teaching fly tying, fly casting, and conservation topics. It is an excellent opportunity to come meet the people that spend time on the river and can give advice on how to make the most of your time on the river."
