Men's Time to Fly

This weekend the Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) will host the Eastern’s Qualifier Ultimate Frisbee Tournament at 9:00 a.m. March 2nd and 3rd.  Twenty-four college club men’s teams will travel from all over the east coast to the SRSC and Martinsville-Henry County to fight for the one remaining open slot in the Eastern’s Tournament being held later this month.

There are multiple teams that played at the National Championship and other teams that are expected to compete for Nationals this year so this should be the most competitive Eastern's Qualifier to date,” stated Greg Vassar, who founded Eastern's Qualifier in 2011.   Vassar is also the coach for UNC-Wilmington who will be in attendance for the Eastern’s Qualifier.

The area will see teams from 11 states and D.C. this weekend.  Teams in attendance for the Eastern’s Qualifier are Alabama, Appalachian State, Brown, Cincinnati, Clemson, Connecticut, Dartmouth, Delaware, Georgetown, Kenyon, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina State, North Carolina-Wilmington, Ohio, Ohio State, Princeton, Rutgers, SUNY-Buffalo, Toledo, Towson, Virginia and William & Mary.

“Ultimate Frisbee has quickly become a very popular sport at SRSC and this new event was made possible by previous ultimate events that we have hosted,” said Billy Russo, Director of Operations of SRSC.  “SRSC and the MHC community have done a great job hosting these events in the past and we look forward to hosting many more in the future.”

This event is free to the public and concessions will be open.  For more information about the Smith River Sports Complex and upcoming events please visit www.SmithRiverSportsComplex.com or contact Amanda Gray at (276) 638-5200 for any questions or concerns.
