New Art Exhibition at PHCC

Patrick Henry Community College welcomes visiting artist Nicole M. Santiago who is displaying her exhibition “The Sweet Life Revisited” in the Walker Fine Arts Gallery.

Santiago’s work is described as “lush modernist images of contemporary American life in the middle-class suburbs,” according to Gerry Bannan, PHCC’s professor of art. “Her images celebrate the joys of family life, while at the same time, prodding the viewer to take stock of the values that underlie our material comfort. Nicole’s delicious colors and dizzying perspectives present a world that is inviting, but also just slightly disconcerting.”

Santiago has a bachelor of fine arts in painting from Indiana University and a master of fine arts in painting from the University of New Hampshire. She has shown in more than 80 group, juried and solo exhibitions, and is a member of the First Street Gallery in New York City, N.Y.

She’s also been featured in several publications including Artist’s Magazine, Art New England and the International Painting Annual 1 (INPA-1).

Santiago lives in Williamsburg where she maintains an active studio practice and serves as an associate professor of art at the College of William and Mary. To view more of her work, visit www.nicolemccormicksantiago.com.

A gallery talk and reception with Santiago will be held on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 1 p.m., which also is the same day the exhibition closes. For additional information, visit www.patrickhenry.edu.
