New York Times Bestselling Author Speaking at PHCC

Sharyn McCrumb, an author who specializes in Appalachian literature, is speaking at Patrick Henry Community College on Monday, October 10.  The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in PHCC’s Frith Exhibit Hall at 1:00 p.m.

McCrumb has been writing award-winning Southern literature for over thirty years. Some of her best known works include The Ballad of Tom Dooley, The Ballad of Frankie Silver, and Ghost Riders.  At PHCC, Sharyn McCrumb will discuss St. Dale which is a modern-day version of Canterbury Tales that highlights the NASCAR culture. St. Dale won the 2006 People's Choice Award in Fiction by the Library of Virginia and the James River Writers Association and the 2006 Book of the Year Award from the Appalachian Writers Association.

McCrumb will hold a book signing at the end of her presentation, and the book will be available for purchase following the talk.  McCrumb’s presentation is part of PHCC’s visiting author symposium. The symposium is a yearlong program which will aid in the development of PHCC’s new Honors College Humanities curriculum.
