Next 2nd Thursday Science Talk is this Thursday!

Thursday, November 14 from 6 to 7 p.m.
Walker Lecture Hall | Free to attend.

Join us for the next edition of 2nd Thursday Science Talks, when Dr. Adam Pritchard, assistant curator of paleontology at VMNH, presents "Lost Variety: Anatomical Innovations in the Reptile Fossil Record".

When an animal becomes extinct, we can lose more than just the species; we can also lose the unusual physical adaptations that the animal possessed. During the presentation, Dr. Pritchard will discuss three fossil reptiles, all of which had unique physical traits that we no longer see in nature. Dr. Pritchard will also discuss the strange evolutionary adaptations these reptiles developed to allow them to fill specific niches, and what happens when these creatures die out and those niches suddenly go unfilled.
