Open House Planned for Visitor Center
If you are thinking about planning a day-trip or vacation anywhere in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Martinsville-Henry County Visitor Center has you covered. The state-certified visitor center, located inside the New College Institute’s Fayette Street building, will host an Open House on Saturday, April 25th to showcase services that are offered to both visitors to the area as well as local residents.
The free event will take place from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and feature activities to inform guests of the many ways to have “fun in record time” in Martinsville-Henry County, Virginia. Inside the visitor center, guests can register for door prizes and staff will be giving away balloons and temporary tattoos to children. Adults can play the game Plinko to try and win prizes or earn money-saving discounts on MHC merchandise. Staff will also be on hand to give vacation suggestions, pass out coupons to area businesses and tell about upcoming events planned for 2015.
Several partners in the MHC tourism industry will be present at the event. Bobber the Water Safety Dog will make appearances at the event along with his ranger friends from Philpott Lake. A late model race car, part of the AutosByNelson.com racing team, will be on display. The rear quarter panel of this car features the new Martinsville-Henry County Tourism logo. The car is currently driven by Timothy Peters, who also drives for the Red Horse Racing Team in the Camping World Truck Series.
In addition to the fun activities, Dippers Homemade Ice Cream, winner of the 2014 Virginia is for Lovers Culinary Madness Championship, will give out samples of their gourmet, homemade ice cream (while supplies last).
Outside the building on Moss Street, the Virginia is for Lovers traveling LOVEwork will be on display throughout the weekend. The large display, featuring the word LOVE, provides a fun photo-op while reminding all that “love is at the heart of every Virginia vacation.”
According to Jennifer Doss, Director of Tourism, “Our staff is proud to live, work and play in Martinsville-Henry County and we want to share suggestions for fun things to do with visitors, newcomers to the community and local families looking for a fun staycation this summer.” She added that the Martinsville-Henry County Visitor Center carries maps, tickets to performing arts events and souvenirs, as well as area and state information.
