Philpott Marina Recognized as Best New Facility

The Philpott Marina has been recognized as the Best New Facility in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  The award was presented to Henry County last week at the 61st Annual Conference of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society. 

“The Marina offers a unique recreation opportunity to our citizens that was not previously available,” said Henry County Parks and Recreation Director Roger Adams.  “We are honored to receive this award.”

The conference is education focused and provides an opportunity for recreation and park professionals to discuss areas of common interest as well as receive continuing education units. Highlighting each year’s conference is a formal presentation of awards. This prestigious state-wide program honors individuals, agencies and organizations throughout Virginia who have demonstrated excellence in several areas during the previous calendar year. Almost 100 applications were submitted vying for awards in 13 different categories, including Best New Program, Best New Special Event, Best New Facility, and Best in Media and Marketing.  Judged by a jury of its peers, the Society paid tribute to:

The new Philpott Marina, owned and operated by Henry County Parks and Recreation Department, is located in Bassett, VA on beautiful Philpott Lake. The marina features 42 boat slips that are available for rental on a yearly basis. Amenities include a fueling station with non-ethanol fuel, a marina store with fishing supplies, food, ice cream, bagged ice, drinks and snacks, and public restrooms.

The Virginia Recreation and Park Society is a private, non-profit professional organization, founded in 1953 and incorporated in 1956.  Its purpose is to unite all professionals, students, and interested lay persons engaged in the field of recreation, parks and other leisure services in the Commonwealth of Virginia, into one body.  The members work together to promote and improve the profession in all its diversity.  VRPS is affiliated with the National Recreation and Park Association.
