Prof. Elliot Engel at Piedmont Arts with Brilliant and Bizarre Brontes

Professor Elliot Engel will bring to light the tragic lives of the famed Bronte sisters in his lecture, Brilliant and Bizarre Brontes, on September 24 at Piedmont Arts.

Like a story from one of the sisters' Gothic romances, the Brontes were a family thwarted in love and doomed to face early deaths, but destined to leave behind a body of literature still read and enjoyed today. Using anecdotes, analysis, and large doses of humor, Professor Elliot Engel gives new insights into the backgrounds, accomplishments and lives of these great masters of English literature.
Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Professor Engel now lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he has taught at the University of North Carolina, North Carolina State University and Duke University. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow at UCLA. While at UCLA he won the university's Outstanding Teacher Award.

Guests are invited to enjoy an optional dinner with Professor Engel at 6:30 pm and a lecture at 7:30 pm. Limited seating is available for both the dinner and lecture. Early RSVPs are suggested. Tickets are $25 for the dinner and lecture and $15 for the lecture only. Tickets are on sale at Piedmont Arts and
