Public Call for Artists!

The Trail Takers Art Project is a fun initiative to support local artists, while promoting MHC’s abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities. With this project, a total of 12 pieces of art will be purchased and hidden along the Dick & Willie Trail weekly, for 12 weeks. The Trial Takers Art Committee will utilize social media to market this campaign, and to post weekly clues about the location of the art piece. The public can use those clues to find the hidden art piece. Whomever finds the art on the trail will be its new owner.

Selection Information:
The Trail Takers At Project is open to all artist who reside in Martinsville-Henry County, VA. All entries must be original works and of safe design and constructions. Submissions may be in multiple art forms including, but not limited to, painting, sculpture, pottery, woodwork, iron work, etc. Submissions should be no larger than 12 inches X 12 inches X 12 inches, be family-friendly and be aesthetically appropriate for display in public areas. Some examples of the family-friendly criterion include absence of violence, nudity, bias and hate.

Selection Process: A committee that includes diverse business professionals and community members from the Martinsville-Henry County area, will review submissions. The artwork will be judged on artistic merit, originality and technical quality and creativity, in addition to the criterion listed above. The selected artists may be interviewed by phone to further discuss their proposed artwork. Selected artist must enter into a contractual agreement approved by the selection committee.

Application Requirements:
Interested artists may submit proposals by sending an email with the following information to Tourism@YesMartinsville.com:

  1. Artist’s Name
  2. Artist’s Address
  3. Artist’s Telephone Number
  4. A sketch of the art piece concept or a photograph of the art piece
  5. Title of the Art Piece
  6. Material Details
  7. Dimensions of the Art Piece (height x width x depth)
  8. Description of Art Piece (limited to one paragraph)
  9. Artist Statement and/or brief Artist Biography
