PYSL Merger with SRSC

SRSC/PYSL

The Piedmont Youth Soccer League (PYSL) and the Southern Virginia Recreation Facilities Authority (SVRFA), who owns and operates the Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC), today announces an exciting organizational merger. PYSL now joins the SRSC, creating a greater capacity to serve the community and regional soccer needs.

The merger looks to increase the stability of PYSL while also positioning the soccer organization for regional growth. These changes will allow the PYSL Board of Directors to concentrate on the future of the club now that SRSC will focus on the operations.

"This merger is an extremely positive step for the Piedmont Youth Soccer League. We are excited to be teamed with SRSC staff on a full time basis," stated PYSL President of the Board of Directors Randy Cook. "We will be in a much better situation to provide higher quality soccer programs on a regional scale."

SRSC will manage PYSL's operations, league finances, staffing and hosting of tournaments. The PYSL Board of Directors will continue to function and oversee the direction of PYSL.

"This is the natural next step that flows from the good leadership and growth of PYSL along with the first class facilities and professional staff of SRSC. By consolidating the soccer resources of PYSL and SRSC, we can present more soccer opportunities to our area youth," stated Jimmy McGarry, Chairman of the Board of Directors for SVRFA. "Together we can provide more tournaments, camps, and training opportunities than either organization could provide alone. This merger will be good for our entire community."

The collaboration significantly increases the capacity to serve more of the local population by combining resources. PYSL participants are now able to stop by the offices at the Smith River Sports Complex where staff will be available during regular business hours. Brittney Dorton Harrison , Director of Programs for SRSC, will be the main contact for PYSL with other personnel being able to assist.

"This merger is a win-win for everyone involved and more importantly soccer in the community. The combined resources of the two organizations will allow us to expand our soccer events and give us the opportunity to recruit more in the future while increasing the impact on the economy," said Billy Russo, Director of Operations for the SRSC.

Piedmont Youth Soccer League's mission is to provide players with the opportunity to participate in a spirited soccer environment, and to instill the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, determination, respect for authority and self-esteem in the youth of our community. PYSL is dedicated to providing each player with every opportunity to enhance and develop their skills along with a lifelong love for the game. Piedmont Youth Soccer League shall provide coaching of the highest caliber and encourage lasting personal relationships with other players and families.
