Series Show: Mandolin Orange & Lizzy Ross this Wednesday!

Lovers of harmony and songwriting will delight in this Wednesday night's concert, when Mandolin Orange makes its Rives debut after a solo opening set from Lizzy Ross. 

When NPR named Mandolin Orange's album, This Side of Jordan, one of the "Top 10 Folk & Americana Albums of 2013" (alongside the likes of Jason Isbell and Guy Clark), they offered this description:

"It's hard to explain how magic happens when two talented songwriters fit perfectly together. Mandolin Orange (Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz) seem to just sit back and ride their intuitive harmonies and languid lyricism through songs about faith and life's little unpredictable changes. Marlin's lyrics flow into each other, making the melody feel like something that happens on its own. It all feels so effortless and beautiful, you don't even realize you've been sucked in until the songs reach in and tug hard at your heart."

The band, based in Chapel Hill, N.C., has played at Rooster Walk twice but never at the Rives Theatre. 

"Mandolin Orange's music is simple, beautiful and easy to love," said Shane Pinkston, president of Arts at the Rives Theatre. "If you enjoyed past Rives shows such as Tim O'Brien, Darrell Scott or Travis Book & Sarah Siskind, you absolutely don't want to miss this concert."

Lizzy Ross, a perennial favorite at the Rives and Rooster Walk, will begin the evening with a solo acoustic set that starts at 8 p.m.  She last performed in the area as part of RW7 (May 2015).

Doors to the theatre will open at 7 pm. Advance tickets cost $12 from Woodall's Music in Collinsville, the Daily Grind in Uptown Martinsville, or online HERE. Tickets purchased at the theatre's box office on Wednesday night will cost $15 each. 

All 2015 season pass holders will be admitted free of charge to this show.
