Shop Small in Uptown Martinsville This Saturday

This Saturday, November 28th, is Small Business Saturday. Residents nationwide are encouraged to go out and #ShopSmall to support their neighbors and their community.

Uptown Martinsville merchants are ready to celebrate, offering sales and specials to their customers. Many merchants are decorated and pushing the Shop Small message this year.

Keep an eye out for the Uptown Elf! The elf will be awarding random shoppers for making purchases on Saturday and supporting the Uptown businesses. Ten lucky shoppers will receive Small Business Saturday bucks, valued at $10 each. The only trick is that the voucher must be used on Saturday, November 28th. To be eligible, just start shopping and hope that you are spotted supporting your community and its small businesses.

To enhance the shop small message, Martinsville Uptown (MURA), will be launching their “All I Want For Christmas Can Be Found in Uptown Martinsville” wish list campaign. The campaign will run November 28th through December 5th, which is the Uptown Holiday Open House. Visit one of the uptown shops and pick up a wish list.  Fill in your name as well as the person you wish to mail the list to and their contact information. Next, start shopping! List items that you would like to have along with the store where the item can be found.  Take the list and visit shop to shop until you fill it up with wonderful gift ideas.  The idea is to feel like a kid again, relieve some of the holiday stress and just have fun! Have the shop owners take your photo with the item and it will be mailed with the wish list letter. Turn the list back in to any shop by December 5th and Martinsville Uptown will mail your list out and encourage your “Santa” to come shop for you.

It is estimated that on Small Business Saturday in 2014, $14.3 billion was spent at small independent businesses. “Small Business Saturday is a relatively new idea for some shoppers,” states Martinsville Uptown’s executive director Liz Secrest, “but the hope is that it becomes a day to day reality. Show your support this Saturday and days to come, by shopping local. You are supporting neighborhood shop owners, helping create jobs, filling vacant buildings and increasing local tax dollars.”
