Smith River Fest 2017 to Feature Local and Regional Breweries, Stone Canyon Band & More

For outdoor and nature enthusiasts, the highlight of the summer is just around the corner. Smith River Fest, presented by Bassett Physical Therapy, will be held on Saturday, August 12th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Smith River Sports Complex, located at 1000 Irisburg Road in Axton, Virginia.

With the festival just a month away, the Smith River Fest Planning Committee has a few new updates for festival goers that they are pleased to announce.

This year’s Beer Garden, presented by the Martinsville YMCA, will feature beer selections from local and regional breweries including Martinsville-Henry County’s own Mountain Valley Brewing along with regional favorites 2 Witches Winery & Brewing Co. and Ballad Brewing. Beth Stinnett, Tourism Assistant and Film Office Coordinator for the Martinsville Henry County Economic Development Corporation says, “This announcement is creating a lot of excitement for Smith River Fest. Craft beer is huge in Virginia and the tourism industry, and the Virginia Tourism Corporation expects that popularity to continue to grow. We are hoping that this will attract more out-of-town visitors and entice more locals to the Smith River Fest. A 10-year anniversary is special, and we think this will add a special touch to the festivities.” The Beer Garden will open from 11:00 AM- 5:00 PM.

To keep festival goers entertained throughout the day, the SRF will feature DJWHAT! during the morning hours and Stone Canyon Band will play live music in the afternoon. DJWHAT! “Kasey Lucas”, says, "I'm so excited to be a part of this year’s Smith River Fest! I hope everyone is ready to jam!!!"

New for this year, the Smith River Fest will also feature a Tractor Showcase presented by James River Power Equipment of Martinsville. See a variety of tractors, mowers, gators and power equipment on display and talk to experts from James River Equipment about the right products for your needs. Specializing in John Deere and Stihl. Children are welcome to get up close with their favorite tractor and even take pictures.

Also new for 2017, there will be a Cooling Station at the festival provided by The Harvest Foundation. If you need to cool down quick, without jumping in the river (or mud), you will be able to walk through the cooling station to beat the heat.
