Smith River Sports Complex Announces Expansion of Tournament

The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) is pleased to announce the expansion of the annual 7 v 7 Border Bash High School Football Tournament into a five-week summer passing league starting Tuesday June 11th at 6 PM. Teams will differ weekly, but Martinsville, Magna Vista, Bassett, and Tunstall High Schools will participate every week.

Billy Russo, Director of Operations at SRSC said, "We have hosted one single 7 v 7 event the last 3 years to great reviews. This is a free event for people in the community who love these high school football teams to come out and enjoy the fast paced action all summer at the Complex."

The style of play is one-hand touch with a 15-second play clock and 4-second pass rule per play. Games will be played on a 40-yard field and on field turf. Offense has 4 downs to get a 1st down with the 20-yard mark as the first down. Fumbles are dead balls and offense retains possession. There are no runs or double passes. Coaches will officiate.

The seven offensive players consist of a center, quarterback, and five eligible wide receivers or running backs. Defense also has seven players. The scoring is as follows; touchdown is 6 points, a 1st down is 2 points, defensive stop is 2 points, and an interception is 3 points. Games will play under a 25-minute running clock. Players are required to wear helmets.

Teams participating in the first week are Magna Vista, Patrick County, Bassett, Tunstall, Martinsville and Franklin County. Each team will play four games beginning at 6 PM. The 6 PM games are Magna Vista v. Patrick Co., Bassett v. Tunstall, and Martinsville v. Franklin Co. The 6:30 PM games are Magna Vista v. Franklin Co., Bassett v. Patrick Co., and Martinsville v.
