Spend a Stormy Evening with Mark Twain

Piedmont Arts presents Mark Twain at Large, an intimate face-to-face conversation with Samuel Clemens-the literary legend better known as Mark Twain-filled with stories and anecdotes taken directly from the famous author's works.

In this one-man theatrical tour de force, actor Ron Jewell channels the 70-plus-year-old Clemens on a rainy night at Stormfield, the author's Connecticut home. Racing in from the thunderous rains Clemens invites the audience, his imaginary captured guests, into his private study for a personable conversation delivered as if the humorist is telling the tall tales and yarns to a group of old friends. Jewell channels his muse so convincingly that the audience will believe they have actually spent the evening with the real Mark Twain.

Jewell first donned a white suit and tried on the likeness of America's greatest humorist in 1974 and it wasn't long before he found himself on the road touring full-time as his alter ego, Mark Twain. Since his first stage tour, Jewell's repertoire has expanded and he has completed over 2,000 appearances in over 25 states.

Piedmont Arts presents Mark Twain at Large on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 7:30 pm at TheatreWorks' Black Box Theatre, located at 44 Franklin St. in Uptown Martinsville. Tickets are $12 and are available at Piedmont Arts, located at 215 Starling Ave., and www.piedmontarts.org.
