The Futurebirds w/ special opening set by Blake Christiana

Join us this Friday night for new music in Martinsville, as we welcome Athens, GA band The Futurebirds, plus a opening set from Yarn lead singer Blake Christiana.

The Futurebirds call their music "psychedelic country," and describe it like this: "Covered in kudzu and swathed in a blanket of humidity, spanish moss, feedback and reverb exists Futurebirds. Here, at this intersection, we find a synthesis of the two extremes of Neil Young’s yin and yang. It’s at this crossroads, on this plane that Futurebirds meld the sweet, lilting, pedal steel and harmonies of the Stray Gators with the raucous, buzzing, distortion of Crazy Horse."

The band tours internationally and met while most were undergrads at the University of Georgia. Blake Christiana, the lead singer of Yarn, will begin the night with a solo set that starts at 9 pm.

Tickets for this show can also be purchased at the Daily Grind in Uptown Martinsville, at Woodall's Music in Collinsville, or online HERE. Season pass holders will get in free of charge to this show.

New Artisan Cafe show: Steel Wheels to play the Rives on Saturday, April 9th

Some things come to be in their own time, of their own accord. Such has been the case with The Steel Wheels. In the beginning, it was simply a matter of four young men who’d happened to cross paths at a formative moment in each of their lives reveling in the shared experience of plucking acoustic instruments and blending their voices. But over the years, what had begun organically as a pure lark evolved into a mission: to fuse the personal with the universal, the deeply rooted past with the joys and sorrows of everyday existence. Tickets $20 adv / $25 doors. Doors at 8 pm, music at 9 pm. Artisan Cafe members admitted free, but season passes not accepted. Buy tickets online HERE.
