TheatreWorks Presents "The Wiz"

TheatreWorks Community Players will be opening their production of “The Wiz”on December 3rd at 7:00PM at the Black Box Theatre in Martinsville. Click HERE to purchase tickets online!

“The Wiz” opened on Broadway on January 5, 1975 and was adapted for the screen in 1978 featuring a super-star cast that included Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. TheatreWorks is featuring a talented local cast and crew of 25; with Linda Tyree staring at Dorothy, DeMarco King as the Tin Man, Jonathan Penn as the Lion and Isaiah Young as the Scarecrow.  For Tyree, a student and a Sergeant in the Army, and Young, a student at Bassett High School, this is a family affair.  The two are siblings and grew-up watching “The Wiz” at home with their mother, Lou Young, who will be sharing the stage with her children as Evillene.

Corbin Campbell, the Director of “The Wiz”, wants potential audience members to know that  “they’re going to laugh, they’re going to tap their toes, they’re going to sing along.” and will have “a great time, a great evening of entertainment, they can let their cares go for two hours and come join us.”

The TheatreWorks 2015-2016 Season is sponsored by Bassett Furniture and “The Wiz” is sponsored by Eastman, BB&T, and Jones & DeShon Orthodontics.
