Trout N About 5K Race Success

The weather was perfect as 40 participants ran the Dan River Basin Association's (DRBA) second annual Trout-N-About 5K on Saturday, May 30.  The event was held as a fundraiser for DRBA's Environmental Education initiatives including Trout in the Classroom (TIC).

The run takes place at the Fieldale trail and includes a section of River Road, then a path through a heavily wooded section of private property courtesy of the Lester Properties, then intercepting the Fieldale trail and finally a splashy jog across the beautiful Smith River. In conjunction with the race, a special trout release was held for supporters who participated in DRBA's "Adopt a Trout Program."

This year's sponsors included the founder of TIC, Dr David Jones of Jones and Deshon Orthodontics, Aman Sarwary owner of Hugo's  who also won first place in his age category, Uptown Sweets, Nat Greene Fly Fishers of Greensboro, Haywood's Jewelers of Rocky Mount, A DRBA Board Member, Mollie's Originals, Smith River Outfitters, and Collinsville Farm Market. Race coordinators Krista Hodges and Wayne Kirkpatrick did an outstanding job putting this venue together and making it a great day for everyone involved. We appreciate all the sponsors of race, the staff and volunteers.
