Victor Wainwright & Wildroots

Victor Wainwright & Wildroots, a piano-driven blues band now based in Memphis, will make its Martinsville debut Thursday, July 23, at the Rives Theatre.

Wainwright, who boasts a big baritone voice and equally large stage presence, has won numerous awards for his singing and playing, including the Blues Music Association’s Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year award in 2013 and 2014.

"Savannah, Ga., native Victor Wainwright is all about boogie-woogie piano, deep soul, and a voice that recalls Dr. John at his best. He is a rising blues star, a tremendous player," read a recent review in the Chicago Blues Guide.

Victor Wainwright & Wildroots will begin playing at 8 p.m. Tickets to the show cost $10 in advance and $12 at the theatre’s box office on show night. Tickets can be purchased in advance from Woodall’s Music & Sound, The Daily Grind or online HERE. Doors to the theatre will open at 7 p.m

“If you’re a fan of the blues, this is an absolute must-see show,” said Shane Pinkston, president of Arts at the Rives Theatre. “Wainwright is the total package – an amazing piano player, a great singer and a true entertainer. If you liked past Rives shows from The Nighthawks, Steady Rollin’ Bob Margolin, Jonathon Boogie Long or Moreland & Arbuckle, you will love this band.”

Wainwright was also nominated for the Blues Blast Music Award “Sean Costello Rising Star” award and the Blues Blast Music Award “Blues Band of the Year” in 2013. Since 2012, he’s averaged more than 300 concerts per year.
