Virginia Fusion 5.0 This Weekend

The fifth annual Virginia Fusion Ultimate Frisbee Tournament will be held this weekend, September 13th and 14th, at the Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC).

"Virginia Fusion is a very early-season tournament and allows teams to get players experience in competitive games," said Michelle Ng, co-founder of Without Limits. "This tournament is important for teams' recruiting and player development. "

On Saturday the competition will start at 10 a.m. with the last games starting at 1:30 p.m. The competition will begin again on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. with the last games starting at 10:45 a.m.

Without Limits, an organization dedicated to creating and developing opportunities for women Ultimate players, is the host of the tournament. Ng started Without Limits in 2010 because she saw a need and wanted to make a difference.

"This tournament is the first event of the 2014-2015 college season for most, if not all, of these teams. The athletes are ready to kick off their season and will benefit from a skills clinic led by players from North Carolina Phoenix, an elite club team from the Triangle," said Ng.

College Teams:
Delaware University
Duke University
Elon University
George Washington University
James Madison University
Maryland University
North Carolina University
University of Virginia
University of North Carolina at Wilmington
Virginia Commonwealth University
William & Mary University

Ultimate is a 7 v 7 game played on a field slightly smaller than a football field. Players cannot run with the disc and must complete passes to score in the end zone. The opposing team plays defense and if there is a turnover, they try to score in the opposite direction.
