Women's World Cup Champions to Hold Camp at the SRSC

July 14, 2015, Martinsville, VA:  The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) and the Piedmont Youth Soccer League (PYSL) are proud to announce that they will be the hosts of a TeamFirst Soccer Academy camp in 2016. TeamFirst is a camp that is run by US women’s soccer legends and 1999 World Cup Champions Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly, and Tisha Venturini-Hoch.

The camp, which was introduced by Patrick Sullivan, director of the Delores Sullivan Kick for a Cure will run for three days, and will be open to both boys and girls and will be held June 3-5, 2016.

With the growing interest in soccer throughout the FIFA Women’s World Cup that took place this summer, this will be an opportunity for girls and boys to take that interest sparked by the US Women’s team championship run in the international soccer tournament and continue with it through next summer. The campers will be able to learn and develop their soccer skills from some of the greatest former players in the world.

When asked about the chance to promote soccer in Martinsville, Virginia, two time FIFA World Player of the Year Mia Hamm replied "We appreciate the efforts of Patrick to get TeamFirst to Martinsville. It’s going to be a great 3 days of camp and we look forward to connecting with the PYSL soccer community and hope other soccer players in the area will join us See you next June!"

Along with Mia and Tisha is their World Cup teammate and U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame member Kristine Lilly who stated, "We are very excited to partner with PYSL and come to Martinsville,VA. We all grew up in small towns so coming to this area in VA should be a lot of fun and bring back memories of growing up in our own towns."

"This is an exciting announcement and opportunity for our youth.  To have celebrity athletes coming to the SRSC to spend time in our community and support our local soccer efforts here is a rare opportunity that the SRSC and the PYSL look forward to," said SRSC Director of Operations Billy Russo.

"I am very excited to be bringing TeamFirst to the Martinsville, Henry County, and surrounding areas," said Patrick Sullivan, camp coordinator. Sullivan, who is also the director of the Delores Sullivan Kick for a Cure charity soccer tournament that takes place at SRSC, which aims to raise funds for Cancer research through soccer, and promote a healthy lifestyle also stated, "I think it is a fantastic opportunity for soccer fans and players to receive world class instruction from the Team First staff.  This is the one experience you do not want to miss."

There will be payment plan options for those interested in registering for the camp.
