DESCRIPTION:YARNIVAL VI IS BACK AT POP’S FARM with an effort to continue to grow and keep getting better. Last year was incredible\, quite possibly Yarn’s greatest achievement in our nearly 20 years as a band. \nAt Yarnival every ticket is a VIP\, we will be limiting the number of tickets we sell and continue the laidback vibe that has made our past Yarnival’s so welcoming\, friendly and comfortable. PLEASE AS ALWAYS BUY YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE. \nWe will continue to feature whatever kind of music we feel like alongside our feature of alternative forms of entertainment\, i.e. magic\, carnival arts\, circus performers\, etc… You won’t be seeing any super “big names” at our festival but you will be seeing talent that is equal to or even greater than said “big names”. Most likely some will even go on to become “big names”. The difference between a band that draws a hundred people every night and 10\,000 people every night is a tiny speck of dust. Albeit magic dust\, but just a little dust nonetheless.

Tours will begin and conclude at the Historic Martinsville-Henry County Heritage Museum\, guided by knowledgeable Historical Society members.\n \nSpace is limited; reserve your spot for at www.mhchistoricalsociety.org. The tour is family-friendly and informative. The brave (or foolhardy) may choose to top off the tour with the optional Haunted Courthouse.\n \nAdmission is free\, and donations are requested\, to help the Historical Society continue its mission of sharing the fascinating story of Martinsville and Henry County’s past and preserving our rich historical resources.

DESCRIPTION:Experience the magic of natural indigo dyeing with instructor Jennifer Reis at this workshop from 1-4 p.m.\, Saturday\, Oct. 17\, at Piedmont Arts. \nParticipants will learn how to prepare the dye vat; techniques of binding\, stitching\, clamping\, and other pattern-making options; the dye process itself; and the final preparation of finished products. Each participant will receive four napkins and two tea towels to dye. Additional napkins and tea towels will be available for purchase. Participants are welcome to bring their own white or cream-colored items made of cotton or silk fabric. \nTickets are $50 for members and $60 for nonmembers. Advanced registration is required. Ticket sales end at noon on the day before class.

DESCRIPTION:At one time Leatherwood was the hotspot of economic activity in Henry County. The Gravely family ran a tremendous tobacco empire in the area where now we have Larry McNeely’s Leatherwood Grocery and\, across Chatham Road\, Lois Bowling’s art\, furniture and upholstery shop (that brick building was once the tobacco warehouse). Desmond Kendrick grew up just down the road\, hearing stories of the old days from Gravely descendants and their neighbors. His storytelling brings you back in time to the way it once was\, and his unique historical pictures answer questions of what used to be where. \nAdmission is free.

It’s when the restricted access doors swing open and the behind-the-scenes tours begin that things grow peculiar. \nLed by the museum’s curators\, guests will tour the museum with a focus on the “spirit room” collections and the creepy stories many of its specimens tell. As you wind your way through the museum’s restricted areas\, guests will ultimately arrive at a normally inaccessible zone where executive director and renowned forensic entomologist Dr. Joe Keiper will haunt you with a never-before told story of insects and their role in death scene investigations. We hope you enjoy your stay\, because what you learn may torment you to the end of your days! \nKnow Before You Go: \n\nAll guests must be 21 or older.\nTickets must be purchased in advance to attend. Tickets will not be sold at the door.\nTicket sales will end October 22 or sooner\, if all tickets are sold.\nFor one part of the experience\, one flight of stairs is required for access\, but all will be treated to all food offerings\, beverages\, specimens\, and stories.
